You may have noticed a new addition to the Co-op’s coolers recently: locally raised, free range, Non-GMO eggs from Moon Family Farms. The Moons are the newest residents to work the historic property known to locals as The Palms. Fresh eggs are the first retail product from what will eventually be a thriving, certified organic Chico farm.
Moon Family Farm’s hens feast on soy-free Non-GMO feed produced by Bar ALE, a livestock feed company found just fifty miles south of Chico in the small town of Williams. The hens are also fed recovered food scraps from local businesses like Leon’s Bistro, Sicilian Café, and Bacio Catering. They are allowed plenty of time to wander free on the lovely Greenline-adjacent property and are never permanently housed in warehouses or coops.
Whether used in baking, entrees, or just boiled and eaten alone, Moon’s eggs are a wonderful, local, sustainable addition to any egg-eater’s pantry.
